Set up a screen on its display.
Once you've added a screen in Curious, open its link in the web browser on the TV, tablet or monitor. Part of this happens in Curious and part on the screen itself.
Steps
-
In the sidebar, under Content, click Live Labels.
-
In the screen's row, click Set up.
TipThe set-up page also opens by itself straight after you add a screen.
-
Click Copy link to copy the screen's link. On a tablet, you can scan the QR code with its camera instead, so you don't have to type it.
-
On the screen, open the link in its web browser. On a smart TV or media stick, use its web browser. On a tablet, add the page to the home screen so it opens full screen.
-
Make the page full screen, and turn off the screen's sleep or screensaver setting.
-
Back in Curious, click Done. Within a minute the screen's Status in the list changes to Online.
What the screen might say
- Loading…: it's fetching the exhibit. This only takes a moment.
- This screen isn't set up yet: the link doesn't match a screen. Check you typed it exactly, or copy it again from Set up.
- This screen has been archived: restore the screen in Live Labels to bring it back.
- Can't reach Curious or Can't load the exhibit: check the screen's internet connection. It tries again every minute.
Good to know
- Links look like get-curio.us/1234/s/PENGUINS, with your site number and the screen's own code.
- The screen keeps a copy of the exhibit, so if the internet drops it carries on showing the last version rather than going blank.
- It checks in with Curious every minute, picks up changes you make within a minute, and refreshes itself once a day.
- Where the browser allows it, the page asks the screen not to go to sleep. Still turn off the screen's own sleep setting to be sure.
- Wall screens don't count towards your visitor numbers.
